Samoa Pegasus Lodges – Aganoa Lodge Samoa

Surfing, unplugged.

That’s your surfing experience at the Aganoa Lodge Samoa. Just you and the surf and a pristine untouched tropical environment and traditional culture of Pacific island village life, far from the maddening crowd and frantic bustle of daily life.  The only thing that gets you wound up at Aganoa are the ultra-consistent world-class waves, more than ten of them, ranging from full-on Pacific juice to easy learning cruisers.

The Lodge’s main break is the right-hand barrel directly in front of the resort, in full view of the rooms and lounge areas.  Step off your private porch, stroll across the gorgeous beach, and paddle out across the calm lagoon.  Unlike Samoa’s other islands that require boat to access, the waves around the Lodge are a short walk and paddle out. Lefts and rights, and all super-consistent. The Lodge’s experienced guides will give you tips and suggestions for the day’s best waves.

There’s no crowd, either.  Situated in its own private enclave on the border of the Tafua Rain Forest with exclusive access to a stunning 180 meter white sand beach and tranquil lagoon, the Lodge accommodates a maximum of eight guests. A crowded wave at Aganoa? Why, that would be you with three or four other surfers. And if that’s too much, just paddle down to another wave.

Your room is an open-air fale (bungalow, one of eight), designed from native reclaimed timber and stone to blend into the environment of fresh air and virgin jungle and the warm blue waves. Fall asleep to the tropical breeze or the patter of rain.  Bathroom is en-suite, with open-air showers. Power outlets are provided, as is the view of the Aganoa right from your private deck. Both will get you charged up.

The bungalows share a common area, a large open-plan space with bar, lounge area, and individual surf-observations areas. Manicured gardens surround the lodge and sundeck.

The Lodge offers all-inclusive set menu breakfast, lunch and dinner at the oceanside restaurant. The ample and delicious meals are sourced from sea and garden, featuring Samoan delicacies with Western cuisine.  Drool over the view of the surf as you dine.

For a change of pace, and for non-surfing members of your party, the Lodge provides complimentary snorkel gear, bicycles, sea kayaks, fishing gear, and yoga mats. The staff can organize fishing expeditions. Enjoy excursions to the nearby waterfalls and blowholes.   Stroll through the village and soak in the culture.

But really, it’s about the surf, right?  Whether you book the service of a professional photographer, or keep your barrels burned forever into your memories, what you get at Aganoa Lodge Samoa is surfing how it used to be. Simple and uncrowded and plenty of it.

The accommodation at Aganoa Lodge is very simple but classy and elegant at the same time. They have 8 stand alone fales, Samoan traditional bungalows, and each of the fales have a privacy screen which allows you to have your own little slice of heaven in paradise. Each bungalow is almost entirely made out of lava rocks and reclaimed timber which was collected on site to give you a real feel of the Samoan culture.

Each unit is equipped with a king or queen size bed (four-posted) and cooled with the natural ocean breeze as well as a full power mounted fan, en-suite bathrooms and a semi outdoor sky shower. Each unit also has power outlets for you to charge your electronic devices and a private deck literally only steps away from the lagoon beach and is the perfect place to watch the surf.

The surf where the lodge is located is very consistent, with 10 diverse waves within 1 hour from the lodge with most of them being only less than 30 minutes away or just a short paddle across the lagoon. All the lefts and rights works on all tides and the variety of surf offers so many options for surfers of all levels of ability.  Also, the success of their lodge comes to their seasoned, experienced, and highly selective surf guides who make sure that the surfers staying at the lodge are surfing the best waves of their lives. Please find below just some of the spots the surfers at Aganoa regularly surfs, but be assured you may just be able to surf some of the spots that are not even mentioned on this site.

 Aganoa Right

This right hander is Savai’i’s debut wave and can be accessed with just a short paddle from the beach right in front of your lodge. This wave is ultra consistent all year round, breaking anytime of the year anywhere between 2-10 feet (and more!!!).  With multiple take off zones this wave is at its best condition when it’s mid to high tide.  The wave wedges on 2-3 different peaks, and provides you with a hollow tube upon take-off then opens up to some fun rippable walls into the inside before barreling again into the end section.

Aganoa Left

Only a short paddle from Aganoa right and also located right in-front of the lodge’s restaurant. This left peels around the reef pass into the west side of the beach and can provide you with an awesome and fun barrel on the right swell direction.

Only 30 minutes away from the lodge, this wave is surfable at 4-12+ feet and is a long wave with fun rippable walls and barreling sections.

Across the channel from K-Land, Midless is a fun split-peak that peels into a wide channel. There is also a very fun (but shorter) right across the channel from the left when you get bored of surfing Midless or just think that you don’t want to wait for your turn when there will most likely be only you and your mates in the water. 😉

Pastor Point

Only a 30 minute paddle up the north on the corner of the outer reef, this is a very fun and long right hander and even though it also does barrels, it is more mellow compared to Aganoa and suits surfers of all levels of abilities.

Coconut Grove

This electrifying set up can be very fun or downright petrifying. A series of lefts that wind across the shallow reef and can be just as rippable as any wave in the world to as hollow as any wave in the pacific region.

East Side Secret Spots

Over the course of 30 years at Savai’i, the owner of the lodge has found numerous unsurfed “secret” waves. Although he is a bit cautious to give away his secret surf spots, he will still tell you that the outer reefs on the East side are some of the best. Invisible from shore and can only be accessed by boat, the waves here are breathtaking beautiful with empty lineups and crystal clear waters. Although when it is not on its best condition, these beauties are perfect for surfers of all levels and you can only describe it once you have surfed them. When you get “lucky”, these spots will provide you with memories you will never forget and will probably be the best surfing experience of your life.
